ISLAMABAD: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) on Wednesday expressed concern over increasing violence against women and discussed ways and means to prevent such incidents.
In its 168th meeting, chaired by Dr Muhammad Masood, the Council decided that the laws relating to domestic violence would be reviewed and these laws would be tabled before the CII Law Committee.
The council regretted that domestic violence was not considered a criminal offence in our law and culture.
It also drew the attention of the government that the Election Commission of Pakistan should ensure the right of vote to women in the country.
The council will arrange a workshop on domestic violence and all the recommendations will be published.
It asked the government to constitute a desk or special section in the parliament or provincial legislators for implementation of its recommendations. During the meeting, the council also took decision on other items on the agenda.
The members of the council Syed Afzal Haider, Dr Manzoor Ahmed, Javed Ahmed Ghamidi, Justice (retd) Munir Ahmed Mughal, Justice (retd) Rashid Ahmed Jalandhari,
Dr Faiz Bilqees and Dr AR Kamal attended the meeting.
