=> ISLAMABAD, Dec 2: A meeting of the federal executi

ISLAMABAD, Dec 2: A meeting of the federal executive council of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists and the national executive committee of the All Pakistan Newspaper Employees Confederation resolved on Sunday to continue their struggle for freedom of the press and for the economic rights of newspaper employees.

The peaceful struggle, a resolution said, would continue till all irritants, including recent amendments to the Pemra ordinance and the RPPO and restrictions on private TV channels and on their editorial content were removed.

It also reiterated its demand for the implementation of the seventh wage award.

It described as a positive development the assurances given on Sunday by Federal Information Minister Nisar Memon during a meeting with a PFUJ delegation to resolve problems by December 15.

The minister assured the delegation that all cases filed against journalists anywhere in the country would be withdrawn.

Mr Memon was informed that the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists and the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists had nothing to do with slanderous pamphlets, allegedly distributed at their protest camp on November 14 for which a case had been filed against the two organisations.
