IGP approves post disaster management plan

KARACHI: Inspector General Sindh Police Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari in a high level meeting held at Central Police Office (CPO) has approved the post-disaster management plan to cope with any probable untoward incident during the holy month of Muharram as part of extraordinary security arrangements.

A delegation of Shia Ulema, headed by Allama Abbas Kumaili, and high-ranking police officers attended the meeting. IGP directed SSPs and divisional SPs of Karachi to remain in touch with the Shia Ulema and organisers of Muharram processions, besides Ulema be provided the lists of their contact numbers.

IGP called for the strict implementation of ban under section 144 Cr PC on carrying and displaying weapons at public places. He also called for ensuring that there was no distribution and sale of hate material and directed police to take measures to halt wall chalking in this regard.

Additional IG apprised the meeting of contingency plan devised for the Muharram processions. Under the plan, all the shops, vacant houses and flats located along the routes of main procession will be sealed and SHOs will be responsible to monitor it. The shops, houses and flats along the main route of procession will be registered and swept by bomb disposal squad. Similarly, the bomb disposal squad would check and give clearance of sewerage drains located on the main route.
