IBA condemns journalists’ manhandling

ISLAMABAD (April 16 2007): The Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) has condemned the recent incident of journalists’ manhandling in Karachi and said that lawyers and journalists are tied in the everlasting relationship of friendship and unity for upholding the press freedom in Pakistan.

In a press statement here on Sunday, Secretary General IBA advocate Syed Muhammad Tayyab said that the journalists were the honourable section of society and lawyer community cannot tolerate any type of violence against them.

He termed the incident a ‘conspiracy to sabotage the lawyers’ movement against the presidential reference against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and to disturb the pleasant and friendly relationship between the journalists and lawyers. He said journalists were playing a vital role to promote the movement of lawyers against the unconstitutional presidential reference against the chief justice.
