Human smugglers at large

GUJRANWALA, August 09 2006: More than 100 alleged human traffickers and their sub-agents, including a woman, were involved in sending the people abroad. This was pointed out by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) assistant director Aqeel Qureshi at a briefing here on Aug 08 after interrogating 135 people who were deported from Greece.

He said the human traffickers charged from Rs400,000 to Rs600,000 per head for sending them abroad. They crossed them into Iran from where their sub-agents took them to Turkey. These people were arrested when they were trying to enter into Greece by boats in the groups of 11 or 12 people. He said these human smugglers belonged to Sialkot, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin and other districts and some of them were wanted by FIA.

He said FIA teams were conducting raids at their residences to arrest them. Mr Qureshi claimed that the trend of human smuggling has fallen due to hectic efforts of FIA.
