HR ministry to pay for release of 200 prisoners

Islamabad: A total of 200 deserving prisoners, who have already spent their term of sentence in various jails but cannot pay fine, would be released before Ramazan, as HR ministry is paying their fine, said Advisor to the Prime Minister on Human Rights Mustafa Nawaz Khokar.

The advisor said he has already secured the approval of the prime minister for establishing a special fund for release of prisoners.

Underlining the achievements of HR ministry, he said 104 deserving applicants have been provided cheque worth Rs 10,000 each from Relief and Revolving Fund during the month of June.

Distress and detention fund was also being established for providing relief to women. A bill on the constitution of National Commission of Human Rights has already been passed by the Standing Committee on Human Rights, he said.

The conditions of jails are critically monitored by surprise visits of Human Rights ministry officials to different jails in the country.
