Govt urges media to confirm news before publication
PESHAWAR – The NWFP government has directed all the newspapers and other news organizations in the province to confirm its reporting regarding provincial government departments and servants from the concerned departments prior to publication.
Through a letter issued by Directorate of Information Government of NWFP, under the subject of ‘Publication of Slanderous materials’ the concerned bureau chiefs and editors of the newspapers were asked to confirm news before publication of the news items regarding government departments and servants to avoid misconception about the news items among public as well as government departments.
“It has been observed that slanderous materials are being published against government departments/ servants without confirmation from the concerned authority which not only defames the department/ officials but the newspapers also loses its credibility due to publication of unauthentic stories,” the letter said.
