Govt to take action against fake NGOs

Karachi – Sindh government has taken serious notice against the fake NGOs which are collecting Zakat and Fitrana to mint money for their vested interests, The Nation learnt on Tuesday.

According to the reliable sources, Sindh government had decided to start operation against the fake NGOs operating in the province. The government has decided to form committees which will monitor the registered, non-registered NGOs and madaris (religious schools) to monitor the collection of funds in the name of Zakat.

The sources said Sindh government will also probe against those religions organizations collecting Zakat for the banned organizations. He also added that many religious and non religious charity trust’s activities would also be analyzed during the scrutiny and complete audit of coming funds and releasing funds would be done.

Sources said that the government has issued directives to the provincial Social Welfare Department on this regard to send the details about the registered, non- registered NGO and also regional NGO’s with in a week and the provincial government also asked the parliamentarians to submit their recommendations in this regard.

Sindh government also asked the concerned department to send audit reports of all the registered NGOs.
Sindh government has divided the NGOs in three categories, religious organizations which donated funds for the religious purposes, different NGOs which are operating as trust and welfare and social organizations which are operating in the province for various purposes including Human Rights violation, Labor and Child rights, environment and health.

Committees will send report to the concerned department which will scrutinize all the NGOs and those NGOs which used funds for spreading religious extremisms and involved in other vested interests, government will take action against such types of the NGOs and likely to ban the organization if found involve in such kinds of activities.

It must be mentioned here that a number of non-registered NGOs and other local welfare organizations are in full swing in the holy month of Ramdan to collect Zakat and Fitra in the name of charity and rehabilitation of under-treated people while most of them were proved fake but no action has been taken against those NGOs so far.
