Govt to pass WPB during Ramazan

RAO KHALID

ISLAMABAD – The government has decided to pass the Protection to Women’s Rights Bill-2006 during the Ramazan from both the Houses, TheNation learnt.
According to the new plan, the government will summon the sessions of the National Assembly and Senate in mid-Ramazan and will pass the bill before Eid holidays start.
The parliamentarians belonging to treasury, who are intending to go for Umra during Ramazan or who are planning to go abroad, have been asked to come back before the third week of the holy month. The sources said President Musharraf will chair a meeting of the heads of PML and allied parties soon after his return from tri-nation visit in the last week of September. Chairman and deputy chairman Senate, speaker National Assembly, ministers for law and justice and parliamentary affairs will also attend the meeting.
PML President Ch Shujat Hussain who left for UK last Thursday on a two-week visit for medical check up, has also been asked to cut short his visit and reach back home before September 27.
The sources said that the bill finalized by the National Assembly Select Committee would be passed with minor changes as it would automatically fetch the support of PPP-Parliamentarians and government’s key ally MQM. On Women Bill issue, PPP-P and MQM parted their ways with the government after Shujat’s initiative to bring MMA in the lope. The government has decided not to consider the reservations expressed on the bill by MMA during its parleys with the PML Head Ch Shujat thus diminishing the possibility of further talks with the religious alliance on the bill, the sources said.
