Government plans Cell phone policy

Karachi, ministry of Information Technology and Telecom will formulate mobile cellular policy a move it says is essential for the growth of the sector sources in the ministry say. They said the policy was essential in the current deregulated scenario and hops that the ministry would announced it in a few months.

The mobile sector in Pakistan is already deregulated but in order to enhance Tele-density increase coverage nn provide batter quality of service at an affordable price there is a need of proper policy , said a senior official ministry.

He said at present the ministry was busy in hiring a consultant to four month to get it finalized .The ministry is looking for consultants who will analyses the secular sector in our country and recommended on its best utilization a long with is pricing framework ,He added.

The federal cabinet in July this year approved telecom policy al lowing private sector to mark investment in the sector currently monopolized by state owned Pakistan Telecommunication company .However, since after the policy announcement, Local stakeholders have been making hue and cry terming the policy highly protective of PTCL interest and demanding its review.
