By Asad Farooq

KARACHI: The Muttahida Social Forum (MSF), a literary forum of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), on Thursday commemorated legendry actor Moin Akhtar in an evening held in his memories here at the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi.

Several distinguished guests shared their memories associated with Akhtar whereas a CD entitled “Gohar-e-Nayab” was also released on the occasion.

The CD has been prepared by the MSF and comprises several abstracts from the interviews of late Akhtar and his family besides photos captured since his early childhood.

Renowned local comedian Faisal Kazi, who Akhtar used to say, will be his replacement, was the stage secretary for the evening while the key speaker was MQM Coordination Committee Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar.

Addressing the ceremony, he said that a society, which forgets its departed heroes, is not a living society. Dr Sattar said that the MSF had called artists from all across the country to pay tribute to the legendry comedian actor. He said that the legend was not only a great actor but also a great person, who cared for everyone around him.

Relating to the current situation of politics and performing arts, he said much progress could be achieved if politics and acting were parted.

MSF Chief Laung Khan Channa said choosing words to express feeling for the legends like Moin Akhtar is a difficult task. He said that artists are an asset of any nation.

Channa praised Akhtar as saying that he performed roles which others can’t.

Several prominent showbiz and TV stars, including Behroz Sabzwari, Jawed Shaikh and Fatima Surea Bajya, expressed their views and shared their experiences with the legend.

The ceremony started with recitation from the Holy Quran. A Fatiha was also offered for the departed soul. Family members of Moin Akhtar, his son Sharjeel and daughter were also present on the occasion.
