Foreign journalist entering Fata held

KOHAT- The Inter Services Intelligence arrested a Japanese journalist who was trying to enter the tribal area of Kurram Agency bordering Afghanistan in violation of a ban imposed by the NWFP government on the movement of foreigners in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

The ISI officials sent the Japanese, Mr. Saturo, to Peshawar after confirming his identity from the Japanese embassy and a hotel in Peshawar.

Military officials interrogated Mr. Saturo. He was so enthusiastic to visit the Pakistan-Afghan border to make a documentary on the refugees stranded there that he did not even bother to inform his team-mates about his intention, or take permission from the concerned authorities.

Earlier, Mr. Saturo had taken some snaps of the restricted area of the Kohat PAF base which were seized by the ISI officials. His camera films were checked and the investigating officials destroyed those containing photographs of the PAF Base.

Mr. Saturo had rented a car from his hotel and the driver had assured him that he would take him to the border, it was revealed.
