Fomer editor Gool Rustomji dies

QUETTA, Aug 17 2005: Ex-MNA and former editor of the Quetta Times weekly, Gool Rustomji, who died here on Monday August 15, was laid to rest in the Parsi graveyard. She was 92.

Mrs Rustomji belonged to a respected philanthropist family of the provincial capital. She was daughter of late Peston Galwala. Her family set up the first English printing press in Balochistan in 1888 and was pioneer of journalism in the province.

After the death of her husband Shiavax Rustomji, she took over the Quetta Times and edited and managed it till it changed hands in the 1990’s.

Mrs Rustomji was also a social worker and held the posts of vice-president, general secretary and press secretary of the All Pakistan Women’s Association, Balochistan. She also worked for the cause of education and employment of women in the province. In recognition of her services, she was decorated with the Sadaf Award.

She was elected a member of the National Assembly in 1977.

Mrs Rustomji is survived by her sons Pervez Rustomji and Shahrokh Rustomji.
