Five political parties condemn ‘conspiracy against Hamid Mir’

ISLAMABAD: Leaders of five different political parties have condemned a baseless propaganda campaign against senior journalist Hamid Mir and demanded of the government to expose the secret hands trying to silence the voice of free media through blackmailing tactics.

According to a joint statement, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan of PML-N, chief whip of the PML-Q in the NA Riaz Pirzada, parliamentary leader of PPP (S) Aftab Sherpao, parliamentary leader of Fata group Munir Khan Orakzai and Senator Zahid Khan of ANP expressed solidarity with Hamid Mir and said that some secret hands had tried to involve Hamid Mir in the murder of a former ISI official on the basis of a mysterious audiotape. They said that Hamid Mir had always stood by democracy and he had received lot of threats from extremist groups in the past and no one can believe that he can have any unprofessional contacts with any militant group. Four leaders – Sherpao, Pirzada, Munir Orakzai and Zahid Khan have been attacked and threatened by the Taliban many times in the past.

Police sources are of the view that the murder of Khalid Khawaja took place in North Waziristan on April 30 and Osama filed an application against Hamid Mir on May 25. Shalimar police have sent the application of Osama to the legal branch for advice. Information Minister Kaira has already condemned this ‘conspiracy against Hamid Mir’ many times.
