FIR against SHO, policemen ordered

HARIPUR, Oct 19: The Additional Session Court Judge Haripur on Friday ordered the registration of FIR against an SHO, a sub-inspector and five constables for killing three people, including a pir, in an alleged false encounter.

A police party, headed by Saddar Police Station SHO Babar Khan, had on October 1 allegedly killed Arif-ur-Rehman, pir of Ziarat Kaka Sahib Noshehra, and Ishtiaq while their accomplice Talib-ur-Rehman was injured in the encounter near Chamba Bridge, some 15km from here. Talib later succumbed to his injuries in the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad.

Police also arrested three other people.

Police claimed that they had received an information that a big cache of sophisticated weapons was being smuggled to Havelian. The police party signalled a Suzuki pick-up carrying five persons to stop, but they opened fire on policemen. Police returned the fire and killed two of them while one died in the hospital, they claimed.

Altaf-ur-Rehman, brother Arif-ur-Rehman, moved an application in the court of District Judge Mohammad Ibrahim Khan and said that Airf, along with his followers, was going to Havelian to condole the death of one of his followers’ son when police opened fire on them. He prayed for the registration of FIR on the murder of his brother.

The district judge referred the case to Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Adil Khan who asked the Haripur DPO to submit a detailed report on the case. After receiving the report, the court directed police to register FIR against SHO Babar Khan, sub-inspector Jehanzeb, head constable Syed Ayaz and constables Hasrat, Akhtar, Tariq and Kamran.
