Elections of AHJP to be held next month
KARACHI: The Association of Health Journalists Pakistan (AHJP) will hold its annual elections next month at the Karachi office.
Journalists covering health beat or writing on health issues are asked to contact President AHJP Tufail Ahmed or General Secretary AHJP Akhtar Shaheen Rind for new membership.
This was decided at a meeting held at Karachi Press Club, which was chaired by the General Secretary Akhtar Shaheen Rind. Among others who attended the meeting were Ulfat Moghal, Tariq Habib, Shahid Abbasi, Abbas Jakhrani, Sanwal Shaikh, Usama Chaudhry, Jamila Shahid, Imran ur Rehman, Ibrahim Rind, Waqar Mohammad, Mohammad Zahid, Malik Massab, Muneer Aqeel Ansari, Hamid ur Rehman, Amir Chohan and Maria Ismail.
The Association of Health Journalists has been registered and its elections will be held next month, Akhtar Shaheen Rind told the members. All members condemned the misuse of name of association by the non-member journalists and termed it illegal. They said it was also against the journalism ethics.
Such so-called journalists are cause of division among journalist community and earned bad repute to the community, members added. All such non-member journalists should immediately stop using name of the Association of Health Journalists and stop posing them as members and office-bearers of AHJP, otherwise AHJP reserve rights to take legal action against them, they warned.
Members clarified that such so-called journalists are not members of the AHJP nor AHJP owns them, as this association is a registered body now.
