Durrani urges media to act responsibly

ISLAMABAD – Federal Information Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani Tuesday said that media should act responsibly while reporting about crucial issues.

He, however, added that the responsibility of the print and electronic media had increased with their expansion and this was the reason why the government was expanding it.
Talking to a media delegation of regional newspapers from Sindh here at a local hotel, he said that the present government had given unprecedented freedom to media and was working to create an environment of debating issues instead of suppressing them.
“The solution of issues is in debates and discussions and not in their suppression,” he added.
Durrani said that political parties had been portraying each other as traitors in past, however, the present regime was promoting the politics of dialogue.
The government wanted to take all provinces along and resolve all issues through dialogue process.
“Our government has introduced various development schemes to remove the sense of deprivation among the people of backward areas,” he said.
Muhammad Ali Durrani viewed that the rulers were working to develop consensus on all national issues through dialogue and discussion.
He said that the government wanted to strengthen the national media in general and regional in particular because it was closer to roots.
“The government has taken various steps to strengthen the regional press, which has been playing an important role in identifying local problems and suggesting ways for their solution,” he viewed.
Durrani said that no one could ignore the importance of regional press in creating harmony.
“The government has courage to face criticism and that is why it has given unprecedented freedom to media,” he said.
Durrani also assured the solution of genuine problems of the regional media would be resolved with top priority.
He said that the Ministry of Information would evolve a strategy within 15 days for equal distribution of official advertisements to regional newspapers.
