Dir Journalists condemn nazim’s high-handedness

PESHAWAR- The journalist community of Upper Dir staged a protest demo in front of Peshawar Press Club (PPC) to condemn the harassment of journalists by district nazim Sahibzada Tariqullah.

The journalist community under the banner of Dir Union of Journalists gathered in front of PPC, staged a protest demonstration against district nazim Sahibzada Tariqullah for the demolition of a shop and other construction work made by a journalist Zahid Khan. They were chanting slogans against the nazim and demanding of the government to take action against the district nazim.

Addressing the protesting journalists the victim of the high-handedness of district nazim Upper Dir and correspondent of dailies The Frontier PostÂ’ and Maidian, Zahid Khan said that the plot was actually obtained by his father in 1989 and later litigation was also started over the plot. However, all courts including apex court decided the case in their favour and allowed them to make construction over it.

Dispelling the impression of making encroachment ion state property, he said that plot is in his possession since 1989 and the cause behind the demolition was his profession of journalism. He claimed that he has protected the plot from the occupied of Qabza group due to his profession.

He said that the district nazim wanted to punish him for publishing news stories against him. He said that as the reports were based on truth, therefore, the district nazim refrained to move courts against him. He said that news stories were also including coverage to a demo staged by the union council nazims of Upper Dir against the policies of Sahibzada Tariqullah.

Furthermore, he informed the protestors that he has also published a report regarding Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) and the registration of FIR by police against the district nazim. He said that in the wake of publishing facts against the nazim he is out to punish him.

Zahid Khan demanded of the Governor NWFP Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah to constitute an inquiry committee under the supervision of a judge of Peshawar High Court to conduct impartial probe into the incident. He said that if he was proved guilty he is ready to face any kind of punishment.
