Dialogue held on sexual abuse

UMERKOT – In a bid to mark the International Children Day, the Child Rights Committee Umerkot in collaboration with the SPARC (Society for the Protection of the Rights of Child) organised a dialogue under the title of “Consultation with Media on Sexual Abuse” here on Tuesday.

Briefing the media men District Coordinator Abdullah Khoso said that according to a report of SPARC up to date some 704 children have been killed, sexually abused 637, 180 committed suicide, 41 killed under honor killing, 1008 were kidnapped, 526 physically tortured, 96 tortured by police.

Journalist Ilyas Thari told that in our areas a number cases are being happened but due to lack of awareness and other reasons these issues have not been reported. Senior journalist Haji Gul Hassan Arisar said that we could eradicate such evils from the society through promoting the education. Gul MuneerValhari said that, survey should be carried out for collecting the number of children sexually abused and number of children who are working at garages, hotels in order to plan a strategy for its eradication. Allah Bux Arisar said that journalists should avoid publishing the name of victim which will leave bad impact on their social as well as marital life. Majeed Memon said that we should locate the reasons why children were sent to work at garages.

Fida Hussain Haideri, Parshotam Khatri, Lajpat Malhi, Yaseen Khoso, Allah Jurio Soomro, Mushtaque Kunbhar and other journalists of the district participated in dialogues.
