Demonstration held against attacks on TV offices
KARACHI: Journalists held a demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club on Saturday in protest against attacks on the offices of and burning of the copies of the newspaper.
The protesters carrying banners and placards chanted slogans against the attackers.
They termed the attacks a move to gag the media and vowed to thwart it.
Speaking at the rally, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists secretary general Amin Yousuf urged the government to arrest the culprits.
He said it was an attack on the freedom of the press and warned the government that if it allowed such elements to roam around freely it would face the wrath of people.
Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wassan condemned the attacks and directed the IGP to institute an inquiry and take action against the culprits. Jang
Activists of a nationalist party attacked the offices of the TV channel and burnt copies of in different cities of the province.
FIRs have been lodged at different police stations against the attacks.
