Day against child abuse observed

PESHAWAR, Nov 19: The Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (Sparc) on Monday observed the World Day against Child Abuse and urged the media to report cases of child abuse responsibly in order to ‘sensitise’ the people towards the problem.

In a press release issued here, Jehanzeb Khan, Sparc’s general manager for the NWFP, said the media needed to keep the integrity and privacy of the victims in mind while reporting such cases.

Mr Khan urged the media to raise public awareness about child rights.

According to the Sparc’s press release, at least four children were abused each day in Pakistan. Terming the situation alarming, it said the child rights’ bodies should work together to eradicate violence against children by creating public awareness.
