Dawn’s Tharparkar correspondent Prem Shivani dies

MITHI: Prem Shivani, who served as Dawn’s correspondent for Tharparkar district for more than 15 years, passed away here on Thursday evening after a long illness.

He was around 70.

Mr Shivani started contributing to Dawn as its correspondent at Mithi in 2000 after reaching the age of superannuation.

He was also a poet and writer and has a number of his poetry and prose books to his credit.

Mr Shivani has left a wife, three sons and a daughter. One of his sons, Piyaro Shivani, who migrated to India about two years ago, is also a known poet and writer.

MNAs Faqeer Sher Mohammed Bilalani and Dr Ramesh Vankwani, MPA Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani, former chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim and a number of eminent literary figures and journalists from Thar have offered their condolences to the bereaved family.

The last rites will be held on Friday, according to family members of the late Shivani.
