CPNE’s new office-bearers congratulated

ISLAMABAD (November 28 2007): Senate acting Chairman Jan Muhammad Khan Jamali and Leader of the House Wasim Sajjad have extended warm felicitations to the newly-elected office-bearers of the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) with the feeling that the success of these editors in the election would help to further improve and strengthen government-media relations.

In messages sent to CPNE President Arif Nizami and Secretary General Khushnood Ali Khan, Senate acting Chairman Jan Mohammad Jamali and Leader of the House in the Senate reiterated their resolve to protect and promote freedom of expression in the country, terming it as an essential pre-requisite to any democratic set-up.

They also hoped that success of Arif Nizami and Khushnood Khan would contribute to independent media serving the people by acting as impartial critic of government policies which was necessary in the act of providing feedback to improve the lives of the ruled. They observed that government-media co-operation is essential to bring about consolidation of democracy and improvement in quality of life of the people.
