CPNE strongly condemns US attack on Iraq

KARACHI- The Standing Committee of the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) in a meeting held on March 21, 2003 here issued a statement on the naked aggression perpetrated against the people of Iraq by the USA.

The meeting was presided over by Mujeeb-ur Rehman Shami, President CPNE.

“The statement said: “The latest US offensive against Iraq has served to weaken the fundamental principles of international law and justice which safeguard the inalienable human rights of the world’s people and the sovereignty of states. By choosing to go to war, unprovoked, disregarding massive worldwide protests, and without the mandate of UNSC, the US has not only rendered the UN as irrelevant as its predecessor, the League of Nations, but has also revealed a deep antipathy toward the working of very democracy it professes to uphold.

By engaging in an unprovoked war against a disarmed state, the US has assumed the role of an arrogant, ruthless and dictatorial super power, intent on colonising the world. The Standing Committee of the CPNE expresses its deep concern over the consequences of this action, and resolves to do its utmost to support the people of Iraq in their hour of need and uphold the conscience of the world.”
