CPNE lauds Governor’s directive

KARACHI- The Member Editors of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) from Karachi and Sindh meeting on Friday welcomed the action taken by Sindh Governor Muhammadmian Soomro constituting a committee including representatives of the CPNE and the APNS along with Sindh Home and Information Secretary to resolve the issue of the two newspapers of Karachi against whom orders banning publications were enforced.

The meeting convened by CPNE Secretary General Mahmudul Aziz was informed that the Sindh Governor had constituted a committee as mentioned above to resolve amicably the issue of the two newspapers i.e. Evening and Morning Special.

He informed the meeting that Press Secretary to the Governor, Syed Wajahat Ali, had conveyed to him in the afternoon the decision by Governor Muhammadmian Soomro constituting a committee to resolve the issue’ amicably.

The meeting heard in detail the submissions by the Editors of the dailies Morning Special and Evening Special as also from other CPNE members who attended the meeting, their views on the action taken by the Sindh Government and the constitution of the committee for resolving the issue by the Sindh Governor.

Those who expressed views very strongly on the subject of adherence to the Code of Ethics of the CPNE by all newspapers and periodicals and maintaining norms of decency in the publication of news and views and pictures in the publications included Inquilab Matri, Mushtaq Qureshi, Anwar Farooq, Dr Jabbar Khattak, Aamir Mahmood, Najamuddin Sheikh, Jawed Shamshi as also Mehmoodul Aziz.

The Editors of daily Evening Special and Morning Special pledged to abide by the CPNE, Code of Ethics.

The meeting looked forward to the amicable resolution of the issue by the committee constituted by Sindh Governor.

The meeting also opined that the publication of other publications of the Quetta Mashriq Group including their newspaper from Hub should not be obstructed by the authorities.

The meeting concluded with urging all member publications to adhere to CPNE Code of Ethics.

Meanwhile, CPNE President Mujibur Rehman Shami welcomed this evening the action taken on the request made by CPNE in the matter.
