CPNE for resolving ads ban issue

ISLAMABAD – Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) while defending achievements of its struggle for the freedom of Press has pledged to face every threat to the freedom of expression in the country.

CPNE standing commitee in a meeting, on March 17, passed a resolution saying the freedom of Press and the freedom of expression make an important part of the basic human rights, the guarantee to which ensures a civilized society.

The resolution said CPNE is acting as torch-bearer in promoting free Press in the country and is struggling for this cause under the set code of ethics, adding that the freedom of press plays a vital role in political, social, economic and moral uplift and continuity of the political process in a society.

The resolution strongly Condemned the continued ban on government advertisements to Daily Nawa-i-Waqt and The’ Nation and ‘ said it has exposed all the government claims about the Press freedom. The meeting also expressed its concern over the reduction in government advertisements to Daily Azadi, Quetta, Daily Balochistan Express, Quetta, Daily Aghaz, Karachi, and Daily Action, Karachi. It decided to constitute, a high-level committee to resolve the ads ban issue of the Nawa-i­,Waqt. This committee will form a joint action committee in collaboration with the All Pakistan Newspapers Society. The meeting also decided to develop coordination with international organisations of the Editors, and Mr. Aslam Ali was appointed first convener in this regard.
