CPNE deplores pressure on newspapers

KARACHI – The Sindh committee of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) meeting on May 13 reiterated the consistent stand of the CPNE that advertising by the government should not be used as a lever to pressure newspapers and influence their editorial policies.

At a meeting of the committee, the members heard from Aghaz editor Anwer Farooqui the background of the cut-off of Sindh government advertising to the daily and the use of advertising as a lever to influence the newspaper’s editorial policies.

The meeting, presided over by Mr. Mahmudul Aziz, constituted a three-member committee to take “up the matter with the Sindh information department, says a press release.
