CPNE demands medical treatment of ailing journalist
KARACHI- Mahmudul Aziz, the General Secretary of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), has, in a statement, urged upon the Chief Minister of Sindh Sardar Ali Mohammed Khan Maher to order without delay the complete medical treatment of ailing senior newspaper editor Ghulam Mohammed Memon of Hyderabad Sindh’s newspaper Fateh Islam, now admitted for cancer treatment at the National Medical Centre in Karachi.
Mahmudul Aziz reminded the Chief Minister of Sindh that he had drawn his attention at the dinner the Chief Minister had hosted on January 31, 2003 for newspaper editors at Chief Minister House in Karachi, to the prolonged illness of Chief Editor of the newspaper Fateh Islam published from Hyderabad Sindh and the Chief Minister had promised action without delay for the treatment of the ailing editor by the Sindh Government.
However, there was no progress in the direction of providing medical treatment to the ailing Editor at the Sindh Government’s expense. Now the ailing Editor is admitted in the National Medical Centre, being treated for cancer.
Mahmudul Aziz urged the Chief Minister of Sindh Sardar Ali Khan Mehar to order the medical treatment of the ailing Editor at Sindh Government expense without any delay.
Ghulam Mohammed Memon, Chief Editor of the newspaper Fateh Islam published from Hyderabad Sindh, is a veteran journalist-Editor of Sindh who campaigned through his newspaper for the strengthening of Pakistan and the strengthening of democratic institutions in Pakistan.
He has been ailing for several months and his ailment has been diagnosed as cancer, involving very heavy expenses on medical treatment.
Mahmudul Aziz hoped that in keeping with the assurance that Sindh Government shall do everything necessary for journalists who need urgent medical attention in Sindh province and who had a share in the Pakistan Movement, the Chief Minister of Sindh Sardar Ali Mohammed Khan Maher will exercise his powers as Chief Minister and order full treatment at the National Medical Centre of Fateh Islam newspaper Chief Editor Ghulam Mohammed Memon.
