CPJ voices concern over journalist’s murder

NEW YORK (April 16 2008): The committee to protect journalists (CPJ) voiced concern over the murder of Khadim Hussain Sheikh, a journalist, in Hub on Monday, while noting that Information Minister Sherry Rehman has called for a probe into his killing.

“We offer our condolences to the family and colleagues of Khadim Hussain Sheikh,” CPJ Asia Programme Co-ordinator Bob Dietz said in a statement. The New York-based CPJ also noted that the coalition government of Pakistan has begun to move to repeal some of the draconian media restrictions put into place by the previous regime in November 2007.
