CDGK to provide municipal services to Cantt areas

KARACHI: The CDGK should submit its suggestions regarding the provision of municipal services in the cantonment areas to the Ministry of Defence, said Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad at a meeting at the Governor’s House Saturday.
The governor stressed on closer coordination between the cantonment areas and the CDGK and said that guidance should be sought from the fiscal management and GIS system to superimpose the master plan. He said that ‘single agency operation’ was the essence of a successful master plan for Karachi.

“The provision of all international-standard civic facilities to areas under the municipal boundaries of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) should be a must under the spirit of the master plan,” he said. Ibad said that a joint survey must be conducted before the master plan was formulated and the basic concept of municipal services and their financial aspects should be synchronised as per public and expert opinion. All municipal services, including transport, health, education, water supply, sewerage disposal, solid-waste management, environment, legal framework and economic matters should be put under the master plan with a broad national vision and data must be properly compiled.

Ibad said that Karachi was divided into towns on an administrative basis, while under the international standards and norms, all government departments and service providers like the KESC and KWSB should be administratively divided according to demographic needs. City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, DCO Fazalur Rehman, KWSB MD Brig Iftikhar Haider, KBCA chief controller Mumtaz-ur-Rehman, EDO municipal services Masood Alam, EDO master plan Iftikhar Qaimkhani, project coordinator of the Mega City Project Roshan Ali Shaikh, EDO health AD Sanjani and other officials were present at he occasion.
