Call to keep children away from rallies
Karachi:Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (SPARC) has expressed its grief on the deaths of several children in the PPP rally blasts on October 18.
In a statement, Regional Manager SPARC Akhtar Baloch said that such a coward act shows the level of cruelty and intolerance growing in society. “SPARC believes that such acts would not only harm the social fabric but also affect years-long efforts of civil society for the promotion and protection of human rights,” he added.
He said that political parties have the right to hold peaceful rallies and spread their message and agenda and the government is responsible to provide security to citizens and ensure that their basic rights are not suppressed.
SPARC urged the political parties to avoid bringing children in political rallies in the aftermath of recurrent blasts in different parts of the country. The children are the most vulnerable who cannot manage to protect themselves at the time of violence. Hence political parties should restrict their participation in the rallies.
