Call for probe into journalist’s murder
LAHORE: Media Commission-Pakistan (MCP) and South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) Pakistan demanded the implementation of the recommendations of a judicial commission on journalist Saleem Shahzad’s murder to ensure safety of journalists.
In a statement issued ahead of the World Press Freedom Day, May 3, the MCP and SAFMA Pakistan office-holders supported the Commission in its call to the parliament and the armed forces for implementing remedial measures by both the intelligence agencies and the Parliament to help smooth relations between the media-persons/citizens and security agencies.
MCP and SAFMA office-holders called for introduction of measures that would ensure safety and security of life of journalists against intimidation and intolerance by authorities and militants. They also stressed on having insurance cover for them.
