Cable Operators suspend transmission

QUETTA- Cable TV operators in the city and other parts of Balochistan suspended their services on April 22, 2003 after a cable network office was burnt down by unknown people.

The watchman guarding the network office received burn injuries and was admitted to the Bolan Medical Complex.

According to reports, some 12 armed men hiding their faces overpowered the guard, barged into the office of Millennium Cable TV Network Company in Nawan Killi area, a suburb of the city, and set on fire the whole machinery and devices in the office.

The attackers also beaten the night staff members and injured them. When the guard offered resistance, they threw him on burning machinery and fled.

Police officials confirming the incident said owners of the cable network company had not nominated any one in their First Information Report (FIR).

Cable operators of Quetta reacting over the incident suspended their transmissions and demanded immediate arrest of the people involved in the crime.

The president of All Balochistan Cable TV Operators Association, Sohail Aziz, flayed the attack and said: “It is an act of terrorism.”

He said that earlier unknown persons had sent threatening letters to cable operators of the city. The association has informed the police and other officials concerned and requested them to protect the operators.
