Pakistan Press Foundation

QUETTA: All Balochistan Cable Operators Association on Sunday threatened to close down all news channels in Balochistan if the government did not provide them with security.

Addressing a press conference here, President All Balochistan Cable Operators Association Babrak Khan said majority of cable operators in Balochistan were from poor families who were providing entertainment to people at nominal charges but different political parties had forced them to shut down operations, causing them financial losses.

He said earlier Balochistan National Front (BNF) forced the closure of some news channels in the Baloch-dominated areas and now Lashkar-e-Baqa Pakistan had threatened the cable operators to resume their operations.
This situation, he said, had put the cable operators in an awkward situation. He complained that the Ministry of Information and Pemra were also providing them no protection.Babrak said around 1500 people attached with this profession were working with their life in hand. He urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Governor Balochistan Nawab Zulfiqar Magsi to provide them security.
