Cable operators ask govt not to issue new licenses
LAHORE: The Cable Operators Association (COA) has demanded the Pakistan Electron Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) impose a ban on the issuance of new licences to cable operators, Aaj television channel reported on Wednesday.
The channel quoted COA Central President Malik Furqan as telling a press conference that the COA executive committee would convey its demands to Information Minister Sherry Rehman on May 11. He also demanded the PEMRA register all active cable operators.
COA Punjab chief Jabaar Ahmad Khan said many people had been killed in disputes that had erupted after the issuance of new licenses.
