Burn victim reiterates allegations
KARACHI: January 13,2005: Asiya reiterated her allegations that she was raped four to five times by Yaseen Bawani, son of a local businessman before Judicial Magistrate (East) Sadaf Asif who visited critically injured Asiya and recorded her statement and also conducted cross-examination, on Wednesday.
However, when the defence counsel asked whether the accused Yaseen set her on fire, Asiya denied. She said since she attempted to self-immolate, out of frustration and dejection and was not burned by Yaseen Bawani or any other person. She also denied the suggestion made by the defence counsel that she had named or implicated Yaseen in the First Information Report (FIR) in order to get financial support for her medical treatment, for under present circumstances, it was not possible for her to bear huge medical expenses.
She declared she had not implicated Yaseen falsely in this case and he (Yaseen) had disrespected her four to five times.
She also confirmed her statement recorded by Judicial Magistrate Mushtari Khanum (a linked judge that represented the court of another presiding officer).
In reply to a question asked by the defence counsel, the victim (Asiya admitted to the Civil Hospital) confirmed that the police officials concerned and other high officials were present on Wednesday, when she had given her statement before the Judicial Magistrate concerned.
