BOOK PUBLICATION: ‘Satellite television and social change in Pakistan: A case study of rural Sindh’.

KARACHI, April 18: The publication of a book titled ‘Satellite television and social change in Pakistan: A case study of rural Sindh’, authored by Dr. Mohammad Ali Shaikh has been hailed by the President.

In a letter addressed to the author, President Musharraf remarked that “The book invokes an interesting facet of information revolution with its impact on the rural Sindh’s culture as a case study.”

The recently published book takes into account socio-cultural changes taking place in the traditional society of rural Sindh due to advent and spread of satellite television channels.

The research focuses on changes taking place in ten selective areas including cuisine and culinary practices, attire, house decor and architecture, social customs, celebration of festivals, music traditions, approach to education, family system, clan or tribal (Sardari) system and comprehension of language(s) other than the mother tongue.

The book also contains 31 photographs depicting various aspects of Sindh’s society and culture.
