ISLAMABAD: The versatility in the poetry of Ahmad Faraz made him distinctive among all other literary figures.

This was expressed by Chairman National Language Authority Iftikhar Arif while paying tribute to the literary services rendered by Faraz on his birth anniversary. The birth anniversary of Ahmad Faraz was observed on Wednesday across the country to acknowledge Faraz’s unprecedented contributions to Urdu literature.

“Ahmad Faraz was one of the most important figures of Urdu literature. He upheld the cause of democracy in the country and wrote against oppressive regimes,” he remarked. During his exile in London, Faraz wrote some of the most firy poems like “Mohasra”. Ahmad Faraz, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Habib Jalib, Sheikh Riaz, Gul Khan Nasir and Ustad Daman were among those who defiantly wrote against dictators’ rule, he said.

Faraz, who has been compared with Muhammad Iqbal and Faiz Ahmad Faiz, holds a unique position as one of the best poets of the current times with a fine but simplistic style of writing, even common people can easily understand his poetry. Faraz was also known for his Ghazals. He was awarded the most prestigious ‘Kamal-e-Fun Award’ by the Pakistan Academy of Letters for his services.
