Bill against Pemra Ord to be tabled today
ISLAMABAD – The ruling alliance is tabling a bill in the National Assembly today (Thursday) for the abolition of amendments introduced in the Pemra Ordinance on November 3, 2007.
While briefing the media on cabinet meeting here on Wednesday, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman said the cabinet had proved the summary regarding the repealing of ‘Black Laws’ introduced in the Pemra ordinance with the imposition of emergency last November.
She said that all other controversial laws of the Pemra Ordinance would also be annulled in the coming days in consultation with the bodies of journalists.
“The government believes in the freedom of expression and the independence of media, therefore it would repeal all media hostile laws in future for which the work has been initiated,” Sherry concluded.
