BB gives media the slip
KARACHI: Former prime minister Benazir Bhutto is not relying on government security and has her own strategy to protect her life.
Sources close to her disclosed to Daily Times that she didn’t inform anyone where she was going before she left Bilawal House on Sunday. Neither journalists nor party officials were informed about her plan to visit hospitals, a shrine and Lyari for condolences.
“Our journalist friends are displeased and I received many calls in which they complained that they were not informed,” Jamil Soomro, a member of Bilawal House’s media cell, told Daily Times. The PPP used decoy invitations where the media went flocking as Bhutto slipped away for her visits during the day.
Some independent observers are of the opinion that this is part of a battle of minds that has commenced between Ms Bhutto and the ruling establishment, putting it on the defensive.
