Attack on journalists condemned
LAHORE: The representatives of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and other bodies of the lawyers while strongly condemning the attack on journalists in the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) premises have asked the Punjab Bar Council (PBC) to take disciplinary action against the bar members responsible for sad incident.
While addressing a press conference here on Friday, Secretary SCBA, Zulfiqar Bokhari, Vice President SCBA Sahibzada Anwar Hameed, member Pakistan Bar Council Ehsan Bhone, member Punjab Bar Council Bohran Malik and others observed that journalists are part and parcel of the bar. The bar members who attacked the journalists caused bad name for the lawyers’ fraternity, he added.
They were of the view that such bar members and their activities could not be supported by the bar and its members. The PBC while taking action against the bar members responsible for the incident should also consider their attitude towards the bar members. Secretary SCBA Zulfiqar Bokhari said that a fact finding committee is being constituted whose report would be sent to PBC for taking action against the bar members.
It may be mentioned that a bar member Moazzam Iqbal Gill along with his colleagues had attacked three journalists including Amir Riaz, Saqlain Javed and Habib Chohan and beat them severely.
