APNS urges govt to clear dues

LAHORE (APP)- All Pakistan Newspapers Society’s Punjab Provincial committee on Thursday called upon the Punjab Government to clear forthwith the long outstanding arrears of the special supplements of the provincial Newspapers and periodicals.

The meeting which was chaired by its convener Senator Syed Sajjad Bokhari, Chief Editor, Daily Musawaat also asked the provincial the budget of the advertisements for the Newspapers at the earliest to ease their financial problems and overcome extra-ordinary increase in the printing and publishing expenditure.

In another resolution, the meeting noted that inspite of the assurance given by the Chief Minister to the APNS President Arif Nizami, that payment of the arrears of special supplements would be made by june30,2003,it has not been executed for the last three and a half months.

The meeting expressed its concern over the rules and regulations devised by the Local Government regarding the issue of advertisements and stressed that all the advertisements issued under Local Bodies government system must follow the guide-lines of the general policy of the Punjab government.

In another resolution, it was demanded that the Punjab Government must ensure the implementation of the 25percentquota, of advertisements to the regional, Newspapers and periodicals of province.

The meeting re-considered the, applications of Daily Jhoke,’ Multan, Daily Naya Ujala and Daily Yarn, Faisalabad for associate membership of APNS.

Majority of the members present decided to recommend their cases to the APNS secretariat for final decision by the. APNS Executive committee.
