APNEC/PFUJ delegation calls on information minister
ISLAMABAD- On the invitation of Minister for Information and Media Development Nisar A Memon, a delegation of All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (APNEC) and Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) met him at his office.
The minister was joined by Secretary Information Syed Anwar Mehmood, Director General Internal Publicity Fazalur Rehman and Principal Information Officer M Akram Shaheedi. The minister said the government was keen to see that there was congenial environment where all the issues faced by the various stakeholders – the publishers, newspapers’ employees and government – were resolved in an amicable manner.
Nisar briefed the delegation about his meeting with the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE). The idea of the forum was mooted by the minister that there was a need for all the three stakeholders to discuss issues being faced by the industry employees towards understanding and reconciliation.
It was agreed that there will be a meeting which the minister will organise next week and will invite the leadership of the APNS/CPNE so that all issues could be discussed threadbare towards their resolution. The minister also assured that issues faced by the newspaper employees would be discussed including payment of salaries and various employment related issues.
Nisar called upon the leadership of APNEC and PFUJ that in view of the government’s contention and process of discussion initiated by the secretary on Wednesday and followed by him, there was no need to continue with their strike and urged them to call it off. The APNEC/PFUJ appreciated the minister’s initiative and assured that they will take steps in consultation with their leadership to call off their strike.
The APNEC/PFUJ delegation comprised Pervaiz Shaukat secretary general APNEC, C R Shamsi, senior vice-president PFUJ, Fauzia Shahid secretary general PFUJ, Nasir Mehmood Chishti, president Daily Jang Employees Union, Zarghon Shah, president The News Workers Union, Sardar Ashiq Hussain, general secretary RIUJ, Zafar Rashid Bhatti, APP Employees Union and Najamul Saqib, assistant general secretary RIUJ.
