Anti-war rally slates media gagging

KARACHI: A protest rally was organised under the banner of ‘Stop the War Coalition’ which started from the Regal Chowk en route Fawara Chowk and terminated at the Karachi Press Club, on Monday.

The rally was organised in protest against aggression, humiliation and excesses been done across the world which included aggression in Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine Muslims genocide by the Zionist forces including harsh attitude towards the judiciary and attempting to gag the media. The protestors were chanting slogans against the govt. Carrying placards, they demanding the US government to quit Iraq and condemned its policies in Lebanon and expressed solidarity with the Palestinians.

The rally coincided with the fourth year of American occupation of Iraq and denial of basic civil liberties to the people of Pakistan. The journalist community led by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, Karachi Union of Journalists and TV channel representatives deplored the government policy on media and demanded action against those were responsible for attacks on media.
