ISLAMABAD-Prominent analyst Amir Mateen has called upon journalists to launch a protest against “unprecedented control of media”.

In a tweet, he maintained that the owners of the media houses should not decide what goes on air. “Owners are not media. We are media. We need to tell them. If we don’t it’s over for the freedom of expression.”

He pointed out that the journalist’ community had lost Arshad Sharif while many others were presently “detained, exiled, beaten, kidnapped. This is not on.”

In another tweet, he took out his anger on the journalists’ leaders. “Have never been ashamed of our journalistic reps as I am today. What are their credentials; who are they? If they can’t stand for freedoms of expression in the worst time of our history, they should either leave or we get alternate leadership.”
