AJK to get new TV, Radio Station

ISLAMABAD (PPI): Minister of state for information Senator Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli has said that new TV and radio stations of high-powered transmission would be re-established in Muz­affarabad, Azad Kashmir.

She was talking to a team of the Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) led by Mr Owais Aslam-Ali Sec­retary General PPF, called on her, here October 22 after assessing damages to local media in the earthquake-affected areas of Azad Kashmir and Hazara.

She said that telecasts and broadcasts of -TV ahd Radio would be ensured in the affected areas by installing satellite and other modern equipments.

She said new boosters would be installed to provide 100 percent Media coverage in earthquake­ affected areas of Azad Kashmir and Hazara (NWFP).

She said that new boosters would be installed in Bagh Azad Kashmir, Kund bungalow near Balakot and Shinkiari, Kala Dhaka -Besham and other places.

She further said that PEMRA has allowed establishment of six FM radio stations in AJK.

Responding to the demand of the PPF regarding establishment of the network of the small com­munity radio stations in affected areas, the minister of state said that establishment of community radio stations would also be per­mitted in affected areas as the present government believes in media freedom.

She said credits go to the Presi­dent Musharraf for introduction of total media freedom in the country.
Lauding the media ‘s pivotal role of highlighting damages, cre­ating awareness and providing guidance to the people of affected areas, the government and res­cue and relief bodies after October 8 earthquake, she said Media should also play its role in trans­parent assessment of damages of the earthquake to be completed by Nov 15.
