Ailing writer receives assistance

LARKANA: On behalf of Sindh Culture Minister Sassui Palijo, an official handed over a cheque for Rs200,000 to ailing writer Sarkash Sindhi at his residence in Shaikh Zayed Colony here on Friday.

Shamsuddin Kalhoro, assistant director of Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Memorial Library, presented a bouquet to Sarkash Sindhi, a renowned poet and author of nine books. He thanked Ms Palijo for extending financial assistance to him.

Sarkash Sindhi is suffering from prostrate cancer. He had initially declined to accept financial assistance from the government but later accepted a cheque for Rs100,00, said Mr Kalhoro.

Talking to Dawn in a feeble voice, Sarkash Sindhi said that he had been fighting cancer since 2001. About a year and a half ago he was paralysed in a leg and since then he remained on wheel chair.

These days, he said, he was unable to move and remained bed-ridden because of metastasis. He said that his condition was deteriorating with each passing day and asked his friends and well-wishers’ to pray for him.

Sarkash Sindhi, a retired school teacher, has six anthologies and three volumes of his autobiography to his credit.
