Accused confesses to killing another man

HYDERABAD, Nov 1: Nadeem Akhtar, who is in police custody after confessing two days ago to slaughtering his friend Haseeb, made another confession on Thursday to killing another man, Rehan alias Shakeel, 37, five months ago and throwing parts of his body into the lined channel.

Rehan’s family had not reported to police about their relative. When Rehan’s father Absaruddin watched news about Haseeb’s murder and Nadeem’s interview on TV channels he told his younger son, Imran Ali, that Nadeem was the man he had asked about Rehan after he went missing on June 28.

Imran informed supervising police officer (SPO) of Latifabad Ayub Durrani. He interrogated Nadeem and soon afterwards he confessed to slaughtering Rehan also on June 28. Nadeem is in police custody along with his friend Nasir Khanzada for four days.

“Rehan had come to me to settle a monetary dispute involving Rs33,000 and we quarrelled. I hit him in the belly and throttled him to death. Then, I cut his body into several pieces before stuffing them in six bags,” said Nadeem, a sacked Pakistan Railway employee.

Police have not yet found any remains of Rehan’s body. “We will get the DNA test done for verification of Rehan’s body,” said the DPO.

Rehan and his father were in bangles’ manufacturing business. He was also involved in betting (satta), said his father.

“I didn’t report it to police because I know how police work. No FIR is lodged in such cases and I believed that police will not nominate people suspected by us. That’s why my father was trying to locate him on his own,” said Imran Ali, Rehan’s younger brother.
