557 cable-operators closed: Pemra
ISLAMABAD, Aug 11 2005: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has closed down 557 illegal cable operators and has taken action against 86 others for showing pornographic and unethical content.
A statement issued here on August 10 said the authority had taken the action during its ongoing countrywide campaign which started in April.
Pemra has also recovered Rs1 million as fine from various cable operators.
The authority has directed illegal cable operators and loop/line holders to get themselves registered with it and obtain license for their networks immediately, otherwise punitive action would be taken against them.
