‘3,836 cases of human rights violation received’

Karachi: At least 3,836 cases of human rights violations were received at the department of human rights. This was stated by Provincial Minister for Human Rights Nadia Gabol on Thursday.

She stated that majority of the complaints were related to the incidents of Karo Kari, domestic violence, sexual abuse, and acid throwing.

Gabol said that most of the cases of human rights violations are not reported and for that an awareness campaign is being initiated.

She said that initially five centres will be set up in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu and Ghotki. The minister said that the people would be apprised regarding the basic human rights, while legal advice would also be given at these centres.

She said a toll free number 0800-00011 has been formed where people can register their cases any time free of cost. She stated that the complaints of urgent nature are being conveyed to the concerned officials immediately. Cases are also referred to the reconciliation committees functioning under the director human rights.

Meanwhile, efforts are being made to provide a good environment at women police stations so that the complainants can register their cases with ease, she added.
